LIVING WITH CANCER
DOCUMENTARY | FALL 2023
PROJECT BRIEF
Students work in groups of 2-3 for the final project of Intro to Video. Each group can choose between various genres already explored in class.
DELIVERABLES
Along with my team member, we decided on a short 5 minute documentary focusing on narration and storytelling.
CONCEPT
Ish’s story is a tale of inspiration, and his journey differs from most 20 something year olds. While many were out enjoying time with family and friends or working towards their career, Ish was diagnosed with stage 4 Germ Cell Cancer at the age of 22 in 2019. He went through a four month treatment plan with over 58 rounds of chemotherapy and multiple surgeries. He was in remission until 2022 where he was diagnosed with a second cancer and had to undergo surgery once more.
Despite the hardships in life, Ish embodies determination and resilience. He is often speaking out about taking your life into your own hands and overcoming adversity. Life has changed drastically before it could truly begin and his unique experience tells a story of drawing strength when it feels like there is none. This documentary aims to highlight his experience receiving such devastating news at a young age, undergoing treatment, and his loved ones testimonials about that time. His mother will be interviewed to talk about everything from their perspective.

Storyboard
The creation of the storyboard gave us a clearer picture on what footage to shoot and placement of shots when editing. Though not everything was followed strictly, we were able to discuss what components to keep and what to improve.
