TATCHA SKIN: Magazine Editorial
ADVERTISING DESIGN | SPRING 2023
CREATIVE BRIEF
Design an advert for a magazine using a fantasy product or a product that already exists.
Your product or Advert should appeal to the target audience of the magazine.
The Advert should include a Slogan, a logo, and a product picture.
Include at least two AIDA steps to persuade the readers to buy the product.
CONCEPT & STRATEGY
Tatcha is a luxury Japanese beauty and skincare brand promoting pure, kind to skin ingredients.
"Build Your Ritual” aims to give the impression of luxury and self care. It holds Tatcha into an unmistakable part of your everyday routines, curated just for you.
Moodboard
I started off this assignment researching current marketing material and brand presentation. The advertisements are glowy and give the impression of luxury. It also consists of neutral tones coupled with thinner serif typefaces in monochromatic purple hues.
Sketches
With the research, I was able to create refined thumbnail sketches exploring various different compositions and elements. The nature theme was explored along with the soft ethereal glow element.
Design Development
The design development phase was used to translate paper sketches to digital and create stronger compositional elements. The initial digital sketches had good compositions but needed some refining and tweaking. They fell a little flat and like they were floating in space. The logo gets lost without strong contrast and the typography could be improved upon. The feedback I received was to continue to push the boundaries and explore more techniques.
Final Deliverables
The final print ads utilized design hierarchy, form and composition to create stunning visually interesting magazine ads. The subtle purple gradients bring the calm ethereal glow best known to brand and integrate into the spa like experience. The typography plays off the subtle gradation and metallic shine of the logo adding to luxury feel of the brand. Overall, the end product looks magazine ready.
